The paintings of Carmelo Blandino derive a wealth of visual splendor and emotional resonance from flowers, assembling them into wondrous, intuitive compositions, quiet riots of comforting colors and delicate dynamics. Blandino has rigorously refined an approach one might call ‘urban baroque’, combining the subtleties of classical oil painting with the crackling energy of contemporary spray-paint-and–stencils street styles.
Based in the lush sub-tropic landscape of Naples, Florida, Blandino was born to Sicilian parents in Tübingen, Germany, and raised in the culturally charged city of Montreal, Canada. Blandino studied art and design at the city’s local colleges and began a successful career as a freelance illustrator, working with architects, designers, and advertising agencies. In 2002, Blandino shifted his focus to the world of fine art and relocated to Naples. As a rostered artist of Method & Concept, since 2013, Blandino has been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, group shows and artist talks, as well as a first ever artist-in-residency. An exhibition of Blandino in 2020 entitled Convergence was co-curated, by Method & Concept and The Naples Botanical Garden which captured the hearts of the Naples community. Today, Carmelo Blandino's paintings are widely known for their immediacy and their sensual, even lascivious expressions of color, movement, and shape.
