shizue imai

REPRESENTED ARTIST
Originally from Japan, Shizue Imai moved to the United States in 1989. She previously worked as a fashion stylist before changing direction in 1995 to ceramics. In 1997, she moved to New York and studied clay at the Greenwich Pottery House. All of Imai’s work is unique and handmade. Using innovative clay and glazes for each project, the artist pulls from the concept that she learned during her childhood in Japan. According to this; the best ceramics are unique works of art that are crafted carefully by hand and with the utmost attention to the nature of the medium. Ultimately, her work is a realization of her experience with high fashion and humble material, cultures of the past and the living pulse of today.
