EXHIBITION  | ART OF DESIGN
MARCH 10 2022 – APRIL 29 2022

EXHIBITION EXTENDED THROUGH SUMMER 2022

Method & Concept’s exhibition, Art of Design explores the interconnection of contemporary fine art and design in the context of the holistic environment, accessing the highest pursuits of material craft.

Exhibiting artists and designers include Brooklyn-based ceramicist, Scott Daniels (MI, USA b. 1977), with a material language that emotes the intimacy of the human hand.  His unique furniture objects of softened monoliths are unduplicated with textured sand, warm white or dark metallic glazed finishes that invite interaction from the viewer.  Infused in the gallery space, Cranbrook graduate and paper artist pioneer, Matthew Shlian (CT, USA b.1980).  His engineered paper-art has implications in nanoscience that visually translate to mind-blowingly complex projecting tessellations of gouache-washed and luminescent archival paper forms.  Massachusetts-born Light-Sculptor, Jason Krugman (MA, USA b.1983) captures the viewer with intricately hand-soldered LED diodes that delicately cascade sinuously on a 3-dimentional folded mesh, so restrained that the eye only perceives pointilliste flecks of ambient light.

Rounding out the exhibition, Method & Concept’s original hand-crafted collaborative art furniture by internationally exhibited artist/designer, Chad Jensen (MI, USA b.1977), a graduate of the Interdisciplinary program at Detroit’s Center for Creative Studies.  The collaborative objects bring a cohesive thread that provides a network of related content emphasizing the expert craft and skill among all of the work showcased.  Museum-exhibited and privately collected, Jensen’s language of material and form defines his architecturally aesthetic objects where form does not always follow function; a playfulness adopted through the cross pollination of art and design.
