EXHIBITION THEME: Día de Muertos

The open-call-to-artists includes recreational artists, student artists and professional artists whose submissions embody the spirit of the exhibition theme of joyful and festive celebration.

Method & Concept welcomed submissions for an open-call-to-artists for an exhibition entitled Día de Muertos. Celebrating a holiday of joyful remembrance through the expressive power of art, the juried exhibition enriches our local SWFL traditions, providing a platform for artists to connect to the festive traditions of Día de Muertos. Artwork will be exhibited within the gallery of Method & Concept from Oct 21st – Nov 6th, 2024. The exhibition will include an altar for offerings (las ofrendas) and a themed display of traditional sculpted Mexican masks. Artworks can include all media including sculpted masks. Works will be selected by the gallery for their originality and skill, as well as content and story through the lens of joyful celebration. All submissions must be unique and original to the artist. No AI generated or replicated works or original copies will be accepted. Submissions must document artworks that are fully complete. There will be special consideration for artists whose body of work exemplifies the culture, traditions, and heritage of Día de Muertos. All submitted artworks must adhere to the technical call-to-artist parameters outlined in the submission requirements. All artwork submissions will be reviewed for consideration, but not all artwork submissions will be selected for exhibition. Incomplete applications may be rejected.  Only artists selected will be notified. The gallery will act in good faith, yet submission acceptance does not guarantee exhibition.

Las ofrendas: As an additional component to this exhibition, artists and the public are welcome to bring offerings of remembrance to place on the altar. Perishable food, original memorabilia, heirlooms of any sort will not be accepted, as the gallery will not be liable for missing or damaged objects of this nature. (Please carefully read information in the application:  PDF links to applications above.)
